Community Involvement
To complete a puzzle, all the pieces must be present. Prevention efforts are not complete unless the community is involved. NCADA's Community 2000 (C-2000) Support Center staff do just that... community mobilization!
C-2000 is the primary substance abuse prevention initiative of the Missouri Division of Alcohol and Drug Abuse. A neighborhood, city, or other self-determined community can become a Missouri C-2000 Team when it meets certain established criteria.
NCADA provides technical assistance to each team such as identification of community needs and resources; development of action plans utilizing effective research based strategies/programs; leadership training; and establishing an environment for collaboration with other community groups. Additional technical assistance is provided through prevention specialists.
For more information about C-2000 in the St. Louis Metropolitan Area, please call the NCADA at (314) 962-3456.

Other Community Awareness Campaigns
- Red Ribbon Week: (Annually in October) NCADA's C2000 staff assist communities in designing their own campaign as well as participating in NCADA events. Resources are available for schools, community organizations, businesses and religious institutions. Visit NCADA's Red Ribbon website.
- Hands Off Halloween: Our staff supports the Center for Alcohol Advertising in encouraging merchants not to use cartoon and Halloween characters to advertise alcohol products. Teens and adults are encouraged to take a stand by asking local merchants to be responsible in their advertising practices.
- Alcohol Awareness Month: Join NCADA's C-2000 staff in planning community-wide events every April to help keep youth and neighborhoods safe and healthy!
- Tobacco Information Program: All too frequently underage youth have access to tobacco products. Youth and NCADA staff join the Department of Health, the Division of Alcohol & Drug Abuse and local law enforcement officials to disseminate information to merchants about laws regulating tobacco sales to minors.
- Speak Out - Youth Advocacy: This effort is for teens who want to make their voices heard. Join the efforts of other local youth to make your opinion count! Students hold meetings with lawmakers, assist with media forums and write letters to their legislators
