Peaceful Problem Solving

Conflict doesn't need to be harmful! Our peaceful problem solving programs provide students with effective conflict resolution and mediation tools.

  • Winning Friendships: (K-Grade 5) Friendship, acceptance, teamwork, communication, expressing feelings, and solving problems peacefully are among the assets and skills students acquire in this five-session training. Lessons are 30-45 minutes in length and can be scheduled on a weekly or daily basis.

  • Managing My Anger: (Grades 3-5) Handling conflicts and anger can be difficult. This two-lesson series (45 minutes each) is designed to teach students to recognize anger triggers, handle tough feelings, and apply practical techniques for peaceful problem solving. Lessons can be scheduled weekly or daily.

  • Standing Up For Me: (Grades 6-8) This three-four lesson series (45 minutes per lesson) helps students learn to manage anger effectively and resolve conflicts peacefully. Lessons can be scheduled daily, weekly, or in a half-day format.

  • Peer Mediation: (Grades 5-12) This five-six hour leadership training prepares students to serve in the role of peer mediators. Students learn to facilitate a peaceful problem-solving process for peers in conflict with each other. Program content and format vary, depending on grade level. Advanced Mediation is available for students in grades 7-12.

  • RAP (Resolving Arguments Peacefully): (Grades 6-12) This peer teaching model trains teens to teach peaceful problem solving lessons to peers and younger students. This six-hour training is available to mediation graduates or HISTEP students.

  • R.A.G.E. (Resolving Anger and Grudges Effectively): (Grades 9-12) R.A.G.E. is an interactive, three-hour program, that teaches students positive ways to manage anger and offers practical solutions for resolving conflict.
