Teen Institute for Prevention Leaders (TI): (Students who have completed grades 9, 10, or 11) This dynamic, four-day retreat for high school students develops leadership skills in prevention programming. Held annually each summer since 1980, TI continues to be a primary educational and motivational experience that serves as the foundation for much of NCADA's teen prevention programming in the St. Louis metropolitan area and five neighboring counties. Champions – Goin' The Distance: (High School) This is a one day, six-hour training where high school athletes explore the powerful role they can play in preventing teen alcohol/other drug abuse. Check Your Attitude: (Grades 10-12) This highly interactive training provides students the opportunity to explore how attitudes and beliefs influence decisions about alcohol, tobacco and other drugs. Choose a half or full-day training format. Challenges And Choices: (Grades 7-8) During this three and one half hour training, students explore various factors that influence their decisions: attitudes, beliefs, peers, media and advertising. Prevention Skills Training: (Grades 1-8) NCADA has developed and evaluated eight, four-lesson units, one unit for each grade level, 1-8 (each lesson is 30-45 minutes long). Units can be used independently at each grade level, but are also designed to build upon each other to foster grade level or school-wide change. Units integrate drug specific information with life skills development (self-esteem, managing feelings, decision-making, problem-solving, low risk choice making, critical thinking, etc.). A unique opportunity for bringing prevention to an entire student body. Skills Groups: (Grades 2-12) Some students need extra assistance in learning prevention skills. Small groups of four to 15 students meet for six to 12 weeks and focus on acquiring skills in making friends, managing difficult feelings, building trust and self-esteem, handling stress effectively, and building safe and healthy relationships.
